เมื่อถึงวันตรุษจีน ประเพณีตั้งแต่โบราณมาเรียกว่า อังเปา ซึ่งหมายถึง กระเป๋าแดง เป็นการที่คู่แต่งงานให้เงินเด็กๆ และผู้ใหญ่ที่ยังไม่ได้แต่งงานในซองสีแดง หลังจากนั้นทุกคน ในครอบครัว ต่าง ออกมาเพื่อกล่าวสวัสดีปีใหม่ เริ่มจากญาติๆ แล้วต่อด้วยเพื่อนบ้าน ซึ่งคงคล้ายกับการที่ชาวตะวันตกพูดว่า "Let bygones be bygones" (อะไรที่ผ่านไปแล้วก็ให้มันผ่านไป)

ในวันตรุษนี้ อารมณ์โมโหโกรธาจะถูกลืม และไม่สนใจ การฉลองวันตรุษจีนสิ้นสุดลงในงานโคมไฟ ซึ่งฉลองโดยการร้องเพลง เต้นรำ และงานแสดงโคมไฟ ถึงแม้ว่าการฉลองวันตรุษจีน จะมีแตกต่างกันออกไปแต่สิ่งที่เหมือนกัน คือ การอวยพร ความสงบ และความสุขให้กับคนในครอบครัวและเพื่อนทุกคน
